INTRODUCTION

VODOCANALPROJECT – METALPROJECT EENGINEERING JSC is a design company, with highly qualified professionals from a wide range of disciplines, which has offered its many clients a high level of services in both engineering design and investigation.
The state owned VODOCANALPROJECT was founded in 1948 and the state owned METALPROJECT was established in 1969. After the successful privatization of the companies in 2000, they became shareholding companies with GASSTROYMONTAJ, one of the leading private construction companies in Bulgaria. At the beginning of 2004 both companies merged into VODOCANALPROJECT – METALPROJECT ENGINEERING. Our experts are with excellent qualification and extensive work experience and provide a wide range of services, including initial research, feasibility studies, development and implementation of projects, recommendation for complex utilization of water resources, high quality engineering-geological and hydro-geological studies and analysis, research and design of buildings and engineering projects based on steel structures. Our professionals develop advanced solutions and act with respect for the environment, sensitive to the close relationship that exists between economy and ecology.
In 1996 VODOCANALPROJECT was awarded the VIII International Construction Award by the Editorial OFICE – Madrid, Spain. VODOCANALPROJECT won the International Gold Star for Quality Award, assigned by the Business Initiative Directions, Madrid.  In 2002 VODOCANALPROJECT was awarded the Best Construction Practice by the Bulgarian Construction Chamber. BVQi awarded the company with Certificate of Approval EN – ISO 9001:2000.

VODOCANALPROJECT is a leading Bulgarian company with 60 years of experience, both within the country and abroad. The company is specialized in the following areas of activity:

• Study, Design and Supervision of water mains and distribution networks for water supply and sewerage system of settlements, including all facilities;
• Research, Design, Construction, Monitoring and Technological Test and Start up and Commissioning of both Potable Water Treatment Plants and Waste Water Treatment Plants;
• Pumping Stations;
• Hydro-geological and Engineering-geological Studies for construction of well dia. 500 mm.;
• Laboratory and Technological Research; Taking of samples for physical-chemical, biological and radiobiological analyses and testing of soils;

The design company METALPROJECT more than 30 years is specialized in the following areas of activity:

• Research and design of buildings and engineering projects based on steel structures;
• General design of wide field of projects from complicated technological industry halls, trade complexes, sport halls up to cultural, social and residential buildings.

 

VODOCANALPROJECT IS THE AUTHOR OF THE FOLLOWING NATIONAL PROGRAMS:

• National Program for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants and connected to them delivery and trunk sewers – assigned by the Ministry of Environment and Water - 1996.
• National Program for construction of sewerage networks and delivery mains to MWWTP in settlements with population over PE 10000. in the Republic of Bulgaria – assigned by the Ministry of Environment and Water - 2000.
• National Program for Potable Water Treatment Plants and connected to them water supply systems and water sources– assigned by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works - 2000.

 

ANOTHER OUR ACTIVITY IS WATER SUPPLY IN CONJUNCTION WITH POTABLE WATER TREATMENT PLANTS.

Some of the most important Water Supply Projects of VODOCANALPROJECT are relative to the following towns: Sofia, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Pleven, Lovech, Shumen, etc.
In the field of Potable Water Treatment VODOCANALPROJECT had more than
70 projects. More than 26 Potable Water Treatment Plants are into operation .

 

SEWERAGE IN CONJUNCTION WITH WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS ARE OTHER FIELD OF COMPANY’S ACTIVITY

VODOCANALPROJECT is the major designer of the most of MWWTP in Bulgaria. The most important plants are based in Sofia, Plovdiv, Burgas, Pleven, Albena, Vratza, etc.

ANOTHER VERY IMPORTANT PART OF COMPANY’S ACTIVITY IS THE HIGH QUALITY ENGINEERING - GEOLOGICAL AND HYDROGEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION OF GROUND AND UNDERGROUND WATER

VODOCANALPROJECT carries out investigations and construction of all kinds of water intake facilities – wells, Ranney or Felman type, and construction of ground and underground water depression systems. Over 3500 Investigation Projects have been completed and over 5000 water intake facilities have been constructed. Our laboratories, which include facilities for physical, chemical, biological and radiological analyses, and for testing soils, have been of particular importance for the successful completion of all these projects.

MAJOR PROJECTS COMPLETED BY METALPROJECT

The long designing activity of METALPROJECT staff, facing many different engineering problems and finding their solution gave them the opportunity to gain a lot of professional experience. There are many significant national projects in Bulgaria such as MK Kremikovtzi, ZTM Radomir, Sofia Hockey – Ice Sport Hall, Sport Halls in Burgas, Sofia, Fair Pavilion No 6 in Plovdiv, Shopping Centers throughout the country designed by METALPROJECT team are a little part of the completed projects. AREAS OF ACTIVITY WITH FOREIGN COMPANIES

• A Pre-investment Study of the Vit - Osam river basins, Bulgaria, as a part of the Environmental Program for the Danube river basin, was carried out by a joint team of DHV Consultants B.V. – The Netherlands, and VODOCANALPROJECT as a local partner. The Program was financed by the World Bank. The study includes the catchments areas of Vit River and Osam River, two tributaries of the danube, covering an area of 682600 ha.
• VODOCANALPROJECT as a sub-contractor of Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) carried out a Natural Conditions Survey for the Study on the Solid Waste Management on the territory of Great Municipality Sofia.
• The company took part in the preparation of Water Companies Restructuring and Modernization Project - Phase 2 - Detailed Feasibility Studies and Bidding Documents for Dobrich, Zlatna Panega and Pleven Sub-projects - joint team with SAFAGE Consulting Engineers – France, financed by the World Bank.
• Pre-Investment Study was prepared under the Black Sea Environmental Program, financed by the European Bank for Restructuring and Development, by N/E/R/A, UK as leading partner, in association with: DHV Consultants B.V., the Netherlands; South West Water International, UK; Hill Samuel Bank Ltd., UK and VODOCANALPROJECT.
• Feasibility Study Report and Tender Documents - Pilot Project for the towns of Vratza, Montana and Vidin, were elaborated by Aquanet, the Netherlands in association with DHV Consultants B.V, the Netherlands and VODOCANALPROJECT, as a local partner within the Water Companies Restructuring and Modernization Program, financed by the Government of the Netherlands.
• VODOKANALPROJECT has made a report for Evaluation of the Assimilative Capacity and Admissible Pollutant load in the Maritza River and its Tributaries - the second part of UNDP-UNDDSMS Project named Water Quality Protection and Management in the Maritza River Basin. VODOKANALPROJECT has won in the direct bid, in New York.
• VODOCANALPROJECT has prepared a report for Feasibility Study for Restructuring and Modernization of Dimitrovgrad Water Company - independent study of VODOCANALPROJECT under the WARM II Program of the World Bank.
• VODOKANALPROJECT together with a Danish Company EnviDan has made the feasibility study and the detailed design of the WasteWater Treatment Plant in the town of Troyan.
• VODOCANALPROJECT, being a member of the International team, led by the Germany’s company WABAG, prepares the detailed design for Rehabilitation and upgrade of Sofia, Kubratovo, WasteWater Treatment Plant – Water Line.
• VODOCANALPROJECT was invited by ILF Consulting Engineers, Germany, to prepare the Ecological Project in connection with Burgas – Alexandroupolis Crude Oil Pipeline Project.

 

AREAS OF ACTIVITY ABROAD

VODOCANALPROJECT has performed studies, design works and supervision abroad too. The same activity, like above-mentioned, has been carried out in the countries of Syria, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Algeria, Greece, Russia, Tunisia, Cuba, Germany, Vietnam, Iraq, Zimbabwe, etc.

Algeria
During the period 1973 – 1984 VODOCANALPROJECT, as a sub-contractor of Technoexportstroy – Bulgarproject, has prepared projects for Water supply – distribution nets and main pipelines, Sewerage, Wastewater Treatment Plants, Water tower’s design and upgrading of existing water towers, reservoirs, pumping stations.
These projects have been made for the Districts of SETIF, BEJANIA, M‘SILA, GUELMA, Tiaret, Bouira, saida, tabessa, tlemcen, d‘ech cheliff.

Morocco
During the period 1977 – 1986 VODOCANALPROJECT, as a sub-contractor of Technoexportstroy – Bulgarproject, has prepared projects for Geodetic works, Water supply – facilities and main pipelines, Sewerage, Water tower’s design and upgrading of existing water towers, reservoirs, pumping stations, supervision of executing the water supply project for the industrial complex Jare El Asfar.
During the period 1990 – 1994 VODOCANALPROJECT had contracts for designing roads, facilities, transformers, irrigation.

Libya
During the period 1979 – 1992 VODOCANALPROJECT, as a sub-contractor of Technoexportstroy – Bulgarproject, has prepared projects for Geodetic works, Street nets, Water supply – distribution nets and main pipelines; Sewerage, Water tower’s design and upgrading of existing water towers, reservoirs, pumping stations in towns Yadan, Hun and Sokna in Djufra district, Tandjura, Zanzur.

Syria
In 1971 VODOCANALPROJECT has received the I-st Price in the International competition for General sewerage layout for Damascus.
More than 30 years specialists from VODOCANALPROJECT implemented projects such as Water Supply of Phosphate mines assigned by Syria’s Ministry of Utilities.
Nigeria
Master plan for water supply of Kuara State – 1990.
Master plan for water supply of Gongola State – 1991.
Water supply and Potable Water Treatment Plant for town Lokodja.
Over building the Okene dam wall.

METALPROJECT implemented  projects such as Brick Plant – Kondopoga – Karelia, Halls in Russia and Ukraine, Profilactorium in Zatoka, Odessa, Department Store in Tumen, Shopping Centers in Novograd and Oreshkovo, Plant for Aluminum articles in Yugoslavia. Furthermore the company carried out project in Spain, Cuba, Israel, Afganistan and Iran.
